Jim Larrabee was born October 22, 1946 in Elmira, New York.  He graduated High school in l964 from Horseheads and enlisted in the Air Force.  Upon his discharge in l968 he enrolled in college, earning a Associate Degree in Business Administration from Suffolk County Community College, a bachelors degree in Accounting/Business Education from Albany State and a Masters Degree in Education from Elmira College.
 
Jim taught for 11 years at his old high school before moving to Texas and starting a new career in Business.  Learning that he missed his students, he returned to teaching in Gallup, New Mexico. He has been teaching in Gallup for the last 21 years.
 
Jims family consists of his understanding wife Josie, a son Jim, a college professor, a daughter Jaime, living in Texas and a daughter Savannah, a junior at UNM.
 
Jim was initiated into the Elks at the Horseheads Lodge in l972.  He transferred to the Gallup Lodge in l987 when he took the teaching position at the local high school.  He progressed through the chairs and was elected Exalted Ruler in l992.  In 1999 he was appointed District Deputy for New Mexico Northwest by the Honorable George Klein. He served as the State Scholarship Chairman twice and was elected to the State Trustees in 2005, serving as chairman in 2006.
