 JOHN R. HOLBROOK, PER, PDDGER

ALAMOGORDO LODGE NO. 1897

John was initiated into our Order on March 23, 1993. Having risen through the chairs of Lecturing and Leading Knight, he was elected Exalter Ruler and presided over Alamogordo Lodge No. 1897 in the Elk year of 1998-1999. John then served his lodge as a Trustee from 1999 through 2002, when his lodge beckoned him to become its Secretary, which he served until being elected NMEA Vice President.

In 2003, the late Hon. George B. Klein, PGER, our then sponsor, selected John as the Southwest District Deputy for New Mexico.

A graduate of Dawson-Bryson High School in Ironton, Ohio, the tri-state area, John enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1964-1992 in the area of aircraft maintenance. He was stationed at numerous air force installations across the country, as well as in Vietnam, Korea, Germany, England and Saudi Arabia. When he finally retired from the USAF, John had achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E-9).

John holds an Associate of Arts in Business from Mesa Community College, Mesa, Arizona and an Associate of Arts in Aircraft Technology from the Community College of the USAF. Upon his retirement from the military John pursued and obtained a general contractor’s license (GB-98). This background helped him start and build a successful floor covering business in Alamogordo, which was sold a few years ago. John has been involved in property management and rentals for both commercial and residential properties, as well as real estate development. At one time, John held a realtors license in the state of Arizona. John considers real estate his hobby, which allows him the freedom to serve the Elks.

John has the loving support that any successful man needs in his lovely wife, Hazel, a retired registered nurse. The two have been married for 22 years and are proud parents and grandparents of 5 children and 7 grandchildren. They are also members of Grace United Methodist Church in Alamogordo.

While serving the Alamogordo Lodge, John became knowledgeable in the laws governing alcohol and gaming. John frequently assists other Elks lodges and fraternal organizations in an effort to make them successful in their charities.
