Hoop Shoot

The Elks Hoop Shoot is a national free throw contest for kids up to 13 years old. It begins with competition in the local Lodges, Including the 22 Lodge in New Mexico. Winners at the local competition advance to the District Competition, then to State, and then to Regional, in our case for New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana, in Dallas, and then possibly to the National Hoop Shoot in Springfield, Mass.. The NE District Hoop Shoot was held January 21st, 2012. Santa Fe had 2 first place winners and 6 participants in all (Alyssia Martinez and Dominique Grano) Las Vegas had 1 first place winner and 6 participants in all (Steven Lovato) Clayton had 3 first place winners and 4 participants in all (Caleb Gonzales, Audra Archibeque, and Bernard Gallegos). The Southwest and Northwest also had district hoop shoots on January 21st. No results are available.

Good Effort, but a little short at Regionals The kids did their best but we came up short. D.J. Bustos from Las Vegas had to make 15 of 15 on his second round to tie for first. He was in a groove until an unfavorable bounce off the rim on the 11th shot, but like a true champion he came back and sunk the rest of them. We're really proud of all of the kids and the support of the Elks of New Mexico and the families that attended. In addition to myself, President Rick Callaway and Vice President Roger Hamman attended. Also, PSP Karl Stewart and Gale made it from Arizona, as did State Trustee Lyle Weeks and Pat. And of course, Hon. Lowell D. Stephens, GE Leading Knight and Special Deputy, and Karen. With all of the New Mexico families and New Mexico Elks, I'm pretty sure we outnumbered the other states in the region in attendance. For all winners, Click Here!
